03:30 PM: Benchmarks pulled-back from intraday lows and closed above support levels as investors bought stocks available at lower valuations even as the European markets fell after the US downgrade. Rating agency Standard & Poor has downgraded US credit rating to AA+ from AAA.

National Stock Exchange's Nifty ended at 5123.25, down 88 points or 1.69 per cent. The broader index touched a high of 5204.20 and low of 5054.05 in trade today.

Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex closed at 17000.02, down 305.85 points or 1.77 per cent. The 30-share index touched intraday low of 16759.45 and high of 17247.87.

BSE Midcap Index was down 1.58 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index fell 2.34 per cent.

03:25 PM: Omaxe reported standalone net profit of Rs 12.52 crore for quarter ended June 2011 against Rs 18.20 crore in the same quarter a year ago. Net sales were at Rs 241.31 crore as compared to Rs 181.28 crore.

The stock was at Rs 124, down 1.86 per cent on the NSE. It touched a high of Rs 129 and low of Rs 121.20 in trade so far.

03:15 PM: The intraday recovery in the benchmarks was short-lived as weak cues from the US returned to hurt sentiments. Global markets have been facing sharp sell-off after Standard & Poor downgraded US credit rating by a notch to AA+ from AAA. The European markets were also facing the heat and tripped lower following a sharp decline in the US stock futures.

Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex was at 16982.64, down 323.23 points or 1.87 per cent and National Stock Exchange's Nifty was at 5119.10, down 92.15 points or 1.77 per cent.

BSE Midcap Index was down 1.48 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index fell 2.06 per cent.

03:00 PM: Credit Suisse has downgraded Cummins India to 'Underperform' from 'Outperform' and has cut target price to Rs 506 from Rs 760 citing lower than expected June quarter earnings growth.

The stock was at Rs 612.40, down 0.14 per cent on the NSE. It touched a high of Rs 617 and low of Rs 591.25 in trade so far.

02:45 PM: Larsen & Toubro posted net profit of Rs 746.15 crore for quarter ended June 2011 as compared to Rs 666.17 crore in the same quarter a year ago. Total income increased to Rs 9778.79 crore from Rs 8046.82 crore in the corresponding quarter last fiscal.

The stock was at Rs 1650, up 0.61 per cent on the BSE. It touched a high of Rs 1672.80 and low of Rs 1580 in trade so far.

02:30 PM: Tata Chemicals posted standalone net profit of Rs 110.83 crore for quarter ended June 2011 as compared to Rs 151.24 crore in the same quarter a year ago. Total income increased to Rs 1623.46 crore from Rs 1484.49 crore.

The stock was at Rs 353, up 0.34 per cent on the NSE. It touched a high of Rs 360 and low of Rs 340 in trade so far.

01:30 PM: Mahindra & Mahindra reported standalone net profit of Rs 604.88 crore for quarter ended June 2011 against Rs 562.39 crore in the same period a year ago. Net sales were at Rs 6673.20 crore as compared to Rs 5124.17 crore.

The stock was at Rs 672.80, up 2.98 per cent on the NSE. It touched a high of Rs 679.90 and low of Rs 632.60 in trade so far.

01:15 PM: Nelcast reported net profit of Rs 7.85 crore for quarter ended June 2011 against Rs 2.07crore in the same quarter a year ago. Total income was at Rs 155.91 crore as compared to Rs 94.82 crore.

01:00 PM: Deepak Fertilisers reported net profit of Rs 63.94 crore for quarter ended June 2011 against Rs 52.20 crore in the same quarter a year ago. Income was at Rs 473.87 crore as compared to Rs 350.54 crore.

12:00 PM: Godwari Power and Ispat reported net profit of Rs 30.76 crore for quarter ended June 2011 against Rs 12.63 crore in the same quarter a year ago. Total income was at Rs 493.96 crore as compared to Rs 196.01 crore.

11:45 AM: Aurobindo Pharma reported net profit of Rs 101.58 crore for quarter ended June 2011 against net profit of Rs 63.34 crore in the same quarter a year ago. Net sales were at Rs 1053.73 crore as compared to Rs 886.57 crore.

The stock was at Rs , up 0.61 per cent on the NSE. It touched a high of Rs 41.90 and low of Rs 38 in trade so far.

11:30 AM: Niraj Realtors and Shares, a promoter group company of Alok Industries, has purchased additional equity shares in the open market under creeping acquisition and increased their holding in the paid up capital of the Company to 8.68%. With this acquisition, the holding of Promoters and Promoters Group of Alok Industries stands at 29.43% from 29.37%.

The stock was at Rs 20.75, down 6.11 per cent on the NSE. It touched a high of Rs 21.50 and low of Rs 20.50 in trade so far.

11:15 AM: Accel Frontline has entered into memorandum of understanding with Accel Transmatic to acquire their software services division known as "USHUS Technologies". The stock was at Rs 41.20, up 0.61 per cent on the NSE. It touched a high of Rs 41.90 and low of Rs 38 in trade so far.

11:00 AM: Jharkhand Road Project Implementation Company, a subsidiary of IL&FS Transportation Networks has signed an agreement with the Government of Jharkhand for improvement works on 15.1 m stretch of Adityapur - Kandra Road on built operate transfer basis. The project is on annuity basis with a concession period of 15.75 years including 0.75 year of construction period. The estimated cost of the Project is Rs. 241.15 crore.

The stock was at Rs 196, down 3.07 per cent on the BSE. It touched a high of Rs 197.90 and low of Rs 193.25 in trade so far.

10:45 AM: Shares of fertiliser companies gained momentum on reports that an empowered group of ministers has cleared the proposal to free the prices of urea. The government may raise urea prices by 10 per cent per tonne in the first year of the policy

Chambal Fertlisers and Chemicals moved 1.78% higher, National Fertilizers edged 0.31 per cent higher, Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers was up 1.92 and National Fertilisers moved 2.90 per cent higher.

10:30 AM: The Tatas have told the government that the sale of the surplus land held by Tata Communications can fetch revenues to the tune of aboutRs 6,156 crore, marking the first time that the value of the land has been estimated since 2003.

The stock was at Rs 204.45, down 1.18 per cent on the NSE. It touched a high of Rs 206.05 and low of Rs 200.30 in trade so far.

10:15 AM: Larsen & Toubro has bagged three international orders totaling $889 million for hydrocarbon projects. The stock was at Rs 1598.40, down 2.46 per cent on the NSE. It touched a high of Rs 1624.80 and low of Rs 1585 in trade so far.

10:00 AM: SAIL is likely to form a joint venture with National Fertilisers for its proposed Rs 4,450 crore-urea manufacturing plant in Jharkhand's Sindri, in which the steelmaker will retain the majority stake.

The stock was at Rs 111.95, down 2.35 per cent on the NSE. It touched a high of Rs 112.90 and low of Rs 110.40 in trade so far.

09:45 AM: Cairn Energy Chairman Bill Gammell has promised to withdraw arbitration over cess payment and share ONGC's royalty burden in the oil-rich Rajasthan block, accepting the government's conditions for the $9 billion Cairn-Vedanta deal.

The stock was at Rs 277.50, down 3.33 per cent on the NSE. It touched a high of Rs 280 and low of Rs 274.50 in trade so far.

09:30 AM: Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex tanked by 500 points and the Nifty plunged by 143 points reacting to downgrade of US credit rating to AA+ by S&P. Banks and financial stocks led the downfall.
